The 20-year-old started against Reading Under-23’s in midweek but was named amongst the substitutes at Stevenage.
Introduced inside the final 10 minutes the Bournemouth loanee made an immediate impact by brilliantly picking out the top corner with an equalising goal with virtually the last kick of the game.
Speaking to YTFC.net, he said: “There’s no better feeling than to score a last minute equaliser. I was disappointed to be on the bench from the starting 11 in midweek, but there’s no better feeling than scoring your first league goal.”
Whitfield scored six times when on loan at National League outfit Kidderminster Harriers last season, but admits to not knowing too much about his first Glovers strike.
“I had a few touches before (the goal), but they were nowhere near their goal to score so when Zoks (Francois Zoko) flicked it on and I got the first touch, the only thing on my mind was to shoot.
“I can’t remember any of it! I remember my first touch and hitting it with my left foot and it’s ended up in the top right-hand corner but I can’t say much after that.”
The 2-2 draw extends Town’s unbeaten run to eight matches in all competitions and five games in Sky Bet League Two, moving Yeovil up to 10th and within one point of the play-offs.
Having not lost a match since the 1st October, Whitfield told YTFC.net about the mood in the camp.
“The lads are pushing for promotion and we think we can get it. Then Gaffer is pushing and pushing and in training we’re working harder and harder. The play-offs are our aim and promotion would be brilliant after the last few years at the club.”
To top off an enjoyable afternoon in Hertfordshire for the midfielder, Whitfield’s dad was amongst the travelling Town supporters who enjoyed the late drama, something which added to the moment.
“There’s no better feeling than scoring especially when your dad is there – it means a lot to me. I’ve dumped by bags with him and he had a massive smile on his face so I’ll go and see what he has to say!”
