The Town manager was a player under Slade during his tenure at Huish Park, before a serious car collision in 2008 ended his career.
With Slade recently taking up the hot seat at Blundell Park, Way is looking forward to going up against the former Yeovil boss.
Speaking to YTFC’s official YouTube channel, Way said: “We’re up against Russell Slade, who was my manager.
“Unfortunately, I couldn’t give Russ as much as I wanted to because I had the car accident.
“He was very supportive of me throughout that stage and now we go toe-to-toe as managers.
“Time flies by, it will be strange seeing Russ next to me as a manager because I remember seeing him next to my bedside.”
Town come into the match have virtually ensured their EFL status for next season with a convincing 3-0 win over Crewe Alexandra, whilst Grimsby remain rooted in mid-table following defeat at Cheltenham Town last time out.
Although Way spoke fondly of Slade, the Glovers boss says both will be determined to collect the three points.
“We’ll compete against each other,” he said.
“He’ll be doing his best to make his team win and I’ll be doing my best to make sure my team wins.
“I speak highly of Russ because he’s someone who’s gained a lot experience at a number of clubs, and knows how to get the best out of a club, not just a team.”
Yeovil fans can purchase tickets for the trip to Lincolnshire until 3pm on Friday from the Huish Park ticket office (01935 847888) or online. Tickets are also available on the day with a £2 matchday surcharge (excluding junior tickets).
