The Town boss added Alex Lacey and Bevis Mugabi to his starting line-up in a new-look formation which saw the Glovers switch from 4-3-3 to 3-5-2.

The duo, alongside Matt Butcher at the back, helped keep the Magpies’ experienced forward pairing of Shola Ameobi and Jon Stead quiet throughout, in a game devoid of opportunities.

Way also praised wing-backs Liam Shephard and Ryan Dickson as Yeovil recorded their eighth draw in 14 matches.

“It’s a very good point,” he told YTFC’s official YouTube channel.

“They’ve been on a good run of form and have a wealth of experience in their forward line.

“I thought the way the back three – and Shephard and Dickson – handled their threat was absolutely fantastic.

“They looked very solid considering Ameobi and Stead are fantastic players. To manage their experience with the physicality that they show was unbelievable.

“I thought all the players played their roles an responsibilities really well considering I changed the shape. There were so many pluses – I’m very proud.”

Way admitted some of the football on show wasn’t the most pretty, but Town could have stolen all three points at the end through Alex Lawless.

The Glovers are ten points above the drop zone and Way insists his squad will continue to battle to stay out of a relegation scrap. 

“It wouldn’t say it was pleasing to the eye,” he said. “Unfortunately these pitches don’t allow you to get it down and play. 

“Teams are getting it into their forwards and picking up the scraps so it’s hard to be able to play with any fluency like we did at the start of the season. 

“You have to adapt to that which is why we went with two forwards to add that physicality and try and hold the ball up. 

“The players are fighting for the cause and the football club. I feel very proud of them as individuals.

“I have to make sure the group are ready to go again on Tuesday.”
