In very similar circumstances to Saturday’s draw with Leyton Orient, Francois Zoko opened the scoring but saw his goal cancelled out by a late effort from U’s substitute Barry Corr.
It is the third time Town in a month have conceded a goal in the closing stages of a match and Way was upset with how his players saw out tonight’s contest.
“It’s exactly the same pattern,” he told YTFC’s official YouTube channel.
“They threw caution to the wind, threw numbers forward and no one took responsibility to get us up the pitch.
“No one really played a stretch ball in behind their back and didn’t pin them in in the last 10 or 15 minutes. We invited our own pressure.
“It’s not a nice manner to get a point. If I didn’t feel the group was good enough, I wouldn’t be so disappointed and I’d be happy with a point.
“I feel a little bit of fear and anxiety kicks in within the group and we have to break the habit.
“It’s a pattern the players and I don’t like, because effectively we should be winning those matches. It’s not once but twice now.”
Three of the Glovers centre-backs were missing for the visit of Cambridge and Way was forced select a new partnership in the heart of the defence.
Bevis Mugabi and Matt Butcher were paired together and Way was pleased with their efforts.
He said: “I thought Bevis and Butcher were terrific for large spells of the game.
“You couldn’t tell they’d not played together. I thought the way they handled a strong centre forward who caused us problems was a credit.”
