Quick out of the blocks, Diallang Jaiyesimi broke the deadlock early on with his first goal for the club before Rhys Browne added a quickfire second as Town asserted their dominance.

After a slow start, the Pilgrims grew into the match and reduced the deficit courtesy of Joel Grant before a stunning second of the match from wideman Browne gave the hosts a 3-1 lead at the halfway stage.

Not letting their foot of the gas the Glovers added another two after the restart thanks to substitute Alex Fisher’s brace, as higher league opposition were brushed aside in an enjoyable afternoon.

In action on home soil for the final time before the 2018/19 Sky Bet League Two campaign begins, the Glovers were unable to call on three members of the first-team.

Jake Gray and James Bailey continue their rehab from lengthy injuries, whilst loanee Nathan Baxter remains with parent club Chelsea in the absence of Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero following the World Cup.

A recurrent theme in pre-season, members of the Under-18s were also included with Tyrique Spencer-Clarke and Gabriel Rogers both in the matchday squad.

Following impressive displays against Swansea City, Bristol City and Bristol Rovers, Darren Way’s side continued where they left off with an electric start in Somerset that yielded two goals in the opening 11 minutes.

Norwich loanee Jaiyesimi cleverly turned his man 20 yards from goal prior to curling a strike past a hapless Kyle Letheren with just three minutes on the clock.

The onslaught continued as Francois Zoko went close moments later, but it was soon 2-0 when Browne’s rasper from the edge of the box couldn’t be equaled by the Pilgrims stopper.

Having barely ventured out of their own half Argyle came to life after slipping further behind with a flurry of chances themselves.

Veteran keeper Stuart Nelson demonstrated his agility to get down low to palm away Jamie Ness’ driven shot, before brilliantly denying the same man seconds later with a fine reaction save.

Building up a head of steam, Conor Grant crashed an effort off the post from long range before Derek Adams’ side grabbed a goal back.

Playing out from the back, the Glovers surrendered possession on the edge of their own box which allowed former Town man Grant the luxury of poking an effort under Nelson whilst uncontested.

Plateauing into an even affair the game drifted to the half-hour mark with little notable action until Browne reignited proceedings with a jaw-dropping solo goal.

Controlling on his chest 20 yards out, the Antigua & Barbuda international looped the ball over a Plymouth defender before volleying into the back of the net to send the home crowd into raptures.

With their two-goal lead restored the Green & Whites looked comfortable for the remainder of the half with Ness’ strike over the bar the last act of an opening 45 minutes full of positives.

Looking to peg back Town after the restart Graham Carey struck the post from a free-kick on 48 minutes, before the customary substitutions began to flow.

On at the break, Fisher got in on the scoring act when he was perfectly placed to tap in an inch-perfect cross from Trialist C to register his first goal of pre-season.

With a commanding lead the hosts were relentless in putting Argyle to the sword and added a fifth on the hour-mark.

Neat build-up led to Fisher finding himself one-on-one, demonstrating good composure to round substitute keeper Harry Burgoyne and complete the goal scoring rout.

Ending the match with four trialists on the pitch as well as 17-year-old Rogers and Spencer-Clarke from the Academy, Way’s side signed off at Huish Park in style as pre-season heads on the road.
