The Glovers head to Vale Park having seen off League One outfit Southend United at the start of November in the first round.

Otis Khan’s first-half penalty was enough to send the Green and Whites through, with a spot in the potentially lucrative third round now within touching distance.

Ahead of the trip to Stoke-on-Trent, Way revealed his desire for the players to put in a repeat performance from the victory over the Shrimpers.

“We’ve got to make sure we maintain our momentum in the FA Cup,” he told iFollow Glovers.

“I thought the performance against Southend was a very good performance. We’re all prepared and ready to go to Port Vale and hopefully, we can pick up a result and keep this FA Cup run going.

“The most important thing on our mind is to get a performance. We know when our performances have been good for 90 minutes, nine times out of ten we’ve come out with a result – that’s what the focus is on.”

Town are bidding to reach the third round for the fourth time in five years on Saturday, having lined up against both Southampton and Manchester United in recent seasons.

Although Nathan Smith and Artur Krysiak are the only players still at Huish Park to have played in either of those encounters, Way has instilled the club’s FA Cup history into his squad.

“We made a DVD in the build-up to the Southend game on what it means to the football club and the history the supporters have had in the FA Cup.

“The players are fully aware of the shirt that they’re wearing and the history this club has in the FA Cup.

“I said to them ‘we could go to Wembley in the next game what with Tottenham playing there now’. You never know.

“It’s important that the players focus their attention on the build-up, preparation and making sure we put on a good performance that shows togetherness and commitment to come up with the result.”
