Defender Sid Nelson was dismissed late on in the 1-1 draw with Notts County on Tuesday night, joining Bevis Mugabi on the sidelines who serves the last of his three-match ban in Buckinghamshire.
Town have been issued four red cards in the last five games and head to Adams Park without the services of both Nelson and Mugabi.
However, despite missing two players from his defensive unit, Way feels their absence gives others in the squad a chance to shine.
“With the squad that we’ve got, it just gives another player the opportunity to hold that jersey down,” he told iFollow Glovers.
“You’ve seen Tom James come in at right-back and he’s done a fantastic job there.
“We’ve got a good squad this year and I want to be able to use that. With the players we’ve got, it’s someone else’s chance to stake their claim in the first team.”
Whilst suspension provides an opportunity for members of the Glovers squad, Way admits discipline needs to be improved.
Reflecting on his own playing days, the Town boss feels his players have to be wiser.
“I never forget, years and years ago me and Lee Johnson used to play and pinch the back of player’s arms to try and get a reaction. Usually, they’d go for Lee a little bit and we’d have to stick together!
“Those sort of mind games happen and you’ve got to be clever enough to make sure you don’t retaliate – players need to understand that and I think they will because they’re responsible.
“I’m sure Bevis and Sid, being at a young age, won’t make that mistake again.”
