Alex Fisher’s first-half strike was enough for Town to return to Somerset with a victory, after Stuart Nelson saved Sammie Szmodics’ early penalty.
Building on last week’s draw at Exeter City, the Glovers got back to winning ways in Sky Bet League Two to extend the gap between themselves and the bottom two to 11 points.
Following Fisher’s second goal for the club, Way revealed his delight with his side’s performance when speaking to iFollow Glovers.
“The conditions weren’t great but the way the team played, we were disciplined, well organised and you have to win football matches and it doesn’t matter how you do it.
“Nelson made a great save and kept us in the game but the players from start to finish gave maximum effort.
“We tried to keep it simple, there are so many people in the game now that are making up things that don’t exist. Out of possession, it’s about blocking and tackling and with an away performance making sure you’re committed.”
Making just one change from the side in Devon that ended a run of three straight defeats, the Town boss was pleased to find a level of consistency in their performance.
“We talked about consistency because we’ve got so many young players and every time we turn up to the next game I’m hoping we can give that consistent performance.
“I explained to them that consistency is commitment – they’re going to make mistakes but are they committed? You could see a committed performance from the whole team.
“I feel very proud of my players,” he continued. “The supporters were great, I lost my voice, they lost theirs because they sung from start to finish and there was a special feel in the crowd today and they got behind the team so they deserve a special mention.”
