With the announcement of Stephen Arthurworrey set to rejoin to Glovers for a second spell we here at YTFC.net decided to check out the tallest players to don the green and white.
Arthurworrey joins the list as the shortest of the big men, so only those who are listed as being over 6ft 4.5in are included.
1) Hugo Rodgrigues. 6ft 8in
The Portuguese defender was a firm fans favourite and his long leg was famously subject to a Harry Kewell dive in 2004.
2) Dan Burn. 6ft 8in
Arthurworrey isn’t even the tallest Fulham loanee ever to grace the Huish Park turf.
Burns extra height proved vital at Wembley as he rose highest to nod home the second, and winning, goal against Brentford.
3) Asmir Begovic. 6ft 6in
The first of two goalkeepers on the list is Asmir Begovic, at the time on loan from Portsmouth but now of Stoke City. Half a season with Yeovil gave the Bosnian valuable first team experience before he made it to the big time.
3=) Wayne Hennessey. 6ft 6in
Goalkeeper number two on the list, Hennessey played a short spell on loan during the season in the Championship. The Welsh international wowed fans with his performances before Premier League Crystal Palace came calling.
4) Kieffer Moore. 6ft 5in
The first and only striker that made the countdown. Described by some as a ‘beanpole’ forward. Kieffer Moore troubled defences in League One and the Championship and scored the goal that secured the visit of Manchester United last season.
4=) Ben Nugent. 6ft 5in
Staying with last season’s side, Ben Nugent towers over most of the side – but was only half an inch taller than his central defensive partner Arthurworrey.
4=) Aaron Brown. 6ft 5in
The central defender joined the Glovers in 2008 and played more than 20 times scoring a memorable overhead kick at Southend.
5) Stephen Arthurworrey. 6ft 4.5in
The "Big Dog" as he was affectionately nicknamed by his former youth team comrades comes in a lowly 5th on the list.
He impressed during his first spell and kept the powerful Manchester United front line in check for the vast majority of their visit in January.
Now he’s back in Somerset and aiming for promotion under Paul Sturrock.
As an aside, our newest defender Omar Sowunmi could well be added to the list, he matches Arthurworrey on the measuring stick and will be considered one of the Glovers tallest players just as soon as he makes his debut.
Have we missed any? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter – don’t blame us if any of these heights are incorrect, either. We went with Wikipedia for the stats!
