Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League One action this coming Tuesday when Walsall visit Huish Park with a 7:45pm kick off.
The Glovers are hoping to turn back to back draws into some wins and momentum as the quest for League One survival continues into March.
On Saturday, Yeovil came away from Scunthorpe with a point after Joel Grant’s opener was cancelled out in the second half.
That followed a 2-2 draw at home against in form Gillingham.
Goals from both Adam Morgan and Grant in recent weeks have been the main positives to the return of two players who have been out of the side since way before Christmas.
Tuesday’s fixture is the first of three home matches in a row and with two matches undefeated behind the Glovers, confidence should be high that draws can be turned into wins.
The situation at the bottom of the table doesn’t make for pretty reading, Yeovil are 24th, six points from the side in 20th place with an inferior goal difference to boot.
A winning streak starting now would go a long way to putting that right.
A win on Tuesday would actually not change an awful lot in terms of position, there’s a four point gap to 23rd, so a win couldn’t even lift Terry Skiverton’s men off the bottom.
But what it will do is extend the unbeaten run, it would put them within one or two results of getting out of trouble and with two more home games to come the momentum that it would bring would be invaluable.
As for the opponents, Walsall have been in a sticky patch of late and since confirming their place in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final have struggled for consistent form.
They have won just twice out of seven matches in February and suffered defeats to both Leyton Orient and Preston in their last two outings.
The last time the Saddlers picked up all three points was a five goal thriller against Rochdale way back on the 10th of February.
What that means is that their position of 16th might suggest safety is assured, the condensed nature of League One means they are exactly the same distance from the relegation zone as they are the play offs.
Seven points is all that separates them from another shot at Wembley, or a relegation scrap.
The team news from Huish Park mainly surrounds the goalkeeping situation, having gone from four ‘keepers at one point, Terry Skiverton is now left with a headache and potentially just a Goalkeeping coach to choose.
Chris Weale’s long term injury edges closer to being sorted, but Tuesday comes way too soon to be considered an option for a return.
Artur Krysiak came off at Scunthorpe with a serious head injury and needed hospital attention and multiple stitches in his head. The quick turnaround might not quite be enough to ensure the wound in healed and Artur is fit for action.
Gareth Stewart, who is mainly a coach, but still holds a playing registration, came on for Artur and did fantastically well to not only save a Paddy Madden penalty but also performed more than admirably for the whole of the second half.
The other option is to go and get someone in on loan, there are plenty of goalkeepers who would jump at the chance for a stint in a first team but finding them and executing a deal in short space of time is hard work.
Furthermore, an additional loan will also mean than that Yeovil have seven temporary additions in the squad – two would have to miss out on Tuesday.
Ben Nugent has been the unlucky ‘sixth’ loanee in the previous two games and he would be joined in the stands by one of the other loan players.
As for Walsall, they’ll be bringing back their own loan star to Huish Park, someone who Glovers fans will surely recognise.
Jordy Hiwula played a few times for Yeovil earlier this season, scoring against Crawley in the FA Cup before returning to Manchester City.
Since then, he has gone back out on loan, to Walsall and extended his deal with the midlands’ side this week.
The front man already has three league goals to his name and one more against the side that he formerly played for wouldn’t be sniffed at.
However, it is Tom Bradshaw who leads the way for Walsall; his 14 goals for the season are a full 10 more than any other player in the squad.
When the two sides met earlier this season, Yeovil completed an impressive away win thanks to goals from James Hayter and Kevin Dawson.
That man Tom Bradshaw did get one back but it wasn’t enough.
Another win over the Saddlers on Tuesday would be only the second time Yeovil have completed a home and away win double over a side this season, following six points from Bradford City.
In fact, Yeovil’s head to head record against Walsall has been rather impressive of late, the last time Walsall recorded a win over Yeovil was way back in 2009.
Since then there have been four wins and four draws and only once have Yeovil failed to score in this fixture since then – a 0-0 draw in 2013.
So this is where you, the supporter, comes in to play, (no, not in goal – Skivo will get that sorted!).
Right now the club needs you; back to back draws need to become wins and the best chance of that happening is with three packed stands and a Thatchers Gold end even louder than normal.
