22nd April 2016

Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this coming Saturday when the Glovers host the newly crowned Champions Northampton Town.

It is a clash of two sides with very different achievements in their recent past; Yeovil recently secured their future in League Two while Northampton ensured they’ll be leaving the division in the most desirable way.

In way, that makes this fixture something of a dead rubber in terms of league positions, but actually, both sides are beginning to look ahead.

Manager Darren Way has stated publicly this week that his ambition for the end of the season is to get as many fans through the doors and exciting for the future as he can.

On Tuesday, Yeovil drew with high flying Wycombe and could well have won the game at the death when at least one golden chance going begging.

That said, another top side is on the horizon and that no longer holds any fear for the Glovers.

There are a couple of selection issues for the gaffer this week, however with one stalwart from this season missing.

Jakub Sokolik has joined his fellow defensive partner Darren Ward on the sidelined having finally had surgery on a wrist injury.

The injury has been on the back burner for Sokolik for a while, he put his own recovery to one side for the good of the team.

That will likely mean a longer stint in the side for Alex Lacey who has earned his chance with a number of impressive cameo appearances.

The other issue surrounds which of the six loanees misses out. Brandon Goodship was the unlucky one to sit out on Tuesday but any of the borrowed squad members could be absent for this game.

Darren Way’s side has prided itself on an incredible clean sheet record of late, however Way is still yet to find his ideal forward line to score the goals at the other end.

As for our visitors, the Champions bring with them no fewer than three former Glovers in Lawson D’ath, Brendon Maloney and Sam Hoskins.

All three will be presented with medals at the end of the season but they will be among a group of players who will want to prove their worth for next season.

The Cobblers’ unbeaten run now stretches 21 games and dates right back until December 2015 and a defeat at the hands of Portsmouth.

Since then they’ve gained results against nearly everyone else in the division and will be wanting to see that run through until the end of the season.

Two teams who have really been up against some tough times this season cross at Huish Park both with positive outcomes of differing variants.

You can be there at Huish Park to cheer on the team this Saturday, see below for the ticketing details.

Last time we met

The two teams met for the first time since the 2008/09 season earlier this season. The game ended in a convincing 2-0 win for the Cobblers with a former Glover Lawson D’ath among the scorers.

In late march of 2009, the sides met with Yeovil wallowing in the relegation zone of League One needing a result to get out of the bottom three.

In a scene not too dissimilar from this Saturday’s circumstances, Yeovil rallied and ground out a vital 1-0 win.

A single Jon Obika strike was enough to split the two teams.

In the first fixture between the two that season, the result went the other way and the Cobblers came out on top with a 3-0 win.

That victory is the only one for the Cobblers in the head-to-head since they did the double over Yeovil in the 2003/04 season.
