Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this coming Saturday with a home game against fellow strugglers Barnet.
The game at Huish Park kicks off at 3pm and you are all invited to Darren Way’s first league game as interim manager.
Way’s tenure has spanned two games already and both of them were in cup action with very different results.
In the FA Cup last Saturday, the Glovers won 1-0 thanks to a Ben Tozer goal late in the game.
The clean sheet was combined with a renewed vigour, attacking football and a desire to see the game out, all positives to take forward.
That level of performance rolled into Tuesday night’s fixture with Oxford in the southern area semi-final of the Johnstones Paint Trophy.
Scoring a brace goals against a top of the league side is never easy and yet strikes from Wes Fogden and Shaun Jeffers put Yeovil within touching distance of the win, but a stunning strike from debutant Jordan Evans was the catalyst for an Oxford 3-2 win.
In League terms, Yeovil remain bottom and are on a rotten run of form that hasn’t seen a full three points picked up since mid-September.
But with the standard of performances on the rise it is hoped that this weekend’s fixture against Barnet will provide the perfect opportunity to kick start the season again.
The team news is much the same as the past two games, the known absentees are Kevin Dawson, Omar Sowunmi, Marc Laird, Jordan Gibbons and Simon Gillet.
Gillett, however, took part in some of the pre-match warm up on Tuesday suggesting he is edging closer to a return.
As for Barnet, they lie in 19th place but despite being not many places ahead they are a full 10 points clear of the bottom spot.
A Glovers win could take them out of the bottom two depending on results of Dagenham and Redbridge and York respectively.
The Bees are in a similar stint of poor form having dropped out of the FA Cup at the hands of Newport last week after losing to Mansfield, Notts County and Luton during the month of November.
But this Saturday’s game is all about Yeovil Town and getting back to winning ways.
Darren Way has put on record this week, that the only way the club can succeed is as a unit and encouraged the supporters to ‘bring their voices’ this weekend.
So come along and pack the park to get the League campaign back up and running under the new Gaffer.
Last time we met
Yeovil and Barnet have already met this season in the first round of the Johnstones Paint Trophy.
Barnet were the masters of their own downfall however with a single, first half own goal enough for Yeovil to progress.
Prior to that, the two sides last crossed paths in competitive action during the FA Cup of 2003/04. Yeovil beat Barnet on their way to meeting Liverpool in the later rounds.
The game, at Huish Park, was played in front of nearly 6000 people and saw Yeovil thrash their opponents 5-1. Gavin Williams, Colin Miles, Jake Edwards and Nick Crittenden all taking their share of the goal scoring spoils.
The last league meeting came the season before with the results not quite going in Yeovil’s favour. A 0-0 draw at home and a 2-1 defeat down at what was then, Underhill.
That 0-0 draw is however, the only time the sides have played out a game with fewer than three goals in since the turn of the millennium. There’s another 2-1 Barnet win and a 3-2 home win from the campaign before… so on that form, we should expect goals galore on Saturday.
