The Glovers take on Premier League outfit Everton at Goodison Park in Round Two of the EFL Cup after an impressive victory at League One Walsall in the first round.

Town scored twice in extra-time, including Matty Dolan’s stunning strike from inside his own half, to earn a first ever competitive meeting between Yeovil and the Toffees.

Despite never locking horns on the pitch, the two clubs enjoy a good relationship which has seen a number of players arrive in Somerset from Merseyside.

Shane Duffy and John Lundstram both featured for the Glovers in the Championship whilst Liam Walsh played a pivotal part in Town’s excellent form in the second half of last season.

Manager Darren Way enjoys a good friendship with Everton coaches David Unsworth and Joe Royle, meaning there will be plenty of familiar faces at Goodison Park come 7.45pm on Tuesday night.

Yeovil enjoyed a great start to the season which saw them collect four points from their opening two league fixtures, with the 2-0 win at Walsall in the EFL Cup sandwiched in-between.

Performances have continued to breed positivity although Town have lost their last two matches to a narrow 1-0 margin in Sky Bet League Two.

For the hosts it’s been a summer of change with former Southampton manager Ronald Koeman taking charge in place of Roberto Martinez, with a number of changes amongst the playing staff.

England defender John Stones departed for Manchester City for a club record transfer fee, whilst Ashley Williams and Yannick Bolasie have arrived at Goodison from Swansea City and Crystal Palace respectively, leading the way in terms of Toffees transfers.

Koeman’s side have started the new Premier League campaign positively, drawing away to Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day before coming from behind to win 2-1 at West Bromwich Albion.

Speaking ahead of the match, Darren Way said: “Since I have taken over as manager we have had a good rapport with Everton, and of course we took Liam (Walsh) on loan last season.

“We have continued that relationship and I am looking forward to the game. I am sure it is going to be a great atmosphere and a great experience for our players and supporters.”
