18th March 2016

Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this coming Saturday when the Glovers travel to face Cambridge United with a 3pm kick off.

The Glovers have been nicknamed the ‘kings of the 1-0’ win with four consecutive single-goal victories in a row projecting Darren Way’s side away from the drop zone and focused on looking up at the sides in midtable.

That’s not to say the fight against relegation is over and Way has reiterated to his side about the importance of keeping up this run of fine form.

The four wins in a row were preceded by a 0-0 draw with Plymouth which means in total, Yeovil’s defence have gone 456 minutes since they last conceded a goal.

A record that Artur Krysiak and his defensive line will be hoping to continue this Saturday.

They may have to do it with a couple of key personnel missing in front of them however with both Francois Zoko and Matt Dolan facing late tests to see if they’ll make the squad.

Zoko, the scorer of the winner against Notts County, has been in good form with Dolan part of an ever more influential midfield and both will be given all the time to prove they are ready to take their place in the squad.

Way’s side have captured the imagination of the local area once more as well as more than their fair share of points and three more this weekend could see the Glovers leapfrog up to three more sides into the  dizzy heights of 17th place.

As for our opponents, Cambridge lie in 12th place with a points tally of 51.

That puts them still within touching distance of the play-offs, just a five point gap separates them and 7th place Wycombe.

However, their form hasn’t been red hot recently, they haven’t been able to string a set of results together; their impressive draw at high flyers Northampton was in backlash to a disappointing loss to Exeter City.

Things haven’t been helped by the fact that their top scorer – Barry Corr, a rumoured Glovers target during the summer – hasn’t been seen in a Cambridge shirt since mid January.

Yet, his 12 goals are still top of their scorers list with Luke Berry’s 10 goals the next best.

The U’s, now managed by Shaun Derry, have signed one of his former players from Notts County on loan to boost the numbers

Wolves’ Zeli Ismail has joined on a temporary deal for the rest of the season and they have extended the loan of their own Everton loanee Ryan Ledson.

Ledson will have played alongside his Glovers counterpart Liam Walsh for much of the season but will be in opposite corners this weekend.

Here at YTFC.net we’re hoping to hear “1-0 to the Yeovil” ring around the away end in a nod to the Arsenal chant of old for a fifth time this weekend, all the ticket details are below so you can be there too.

Yeovil are next at home on Good Friday when Carlisle make the long trip down.

Last time we met

Before this current season, these two sides haven’t crossed since 2005 when goals from Terry Skiverton and Phil Jevons scored a goal each in a 2-1 win.

Interestingly, Yeovil and Cambridge have met five times in the Football League and the Glovers have come out on top in each one bar this season’s first fixture.

Earlier this campaign, Rory Gaffney scored twice for the U’s in a 3-2 win.

Yeovil’s goals coming from Ryan Bird and Josh Sheehan.

The reverse fixture of the 04/05 season saw the Glovers travel to Cambridge and not only come back with three points but with five goals in the bag too.

Jevo, again was on target, but this time, Darren Way, Lee Johnson and Andrejs Stolcers got in on the act too.

Before that, we find not one, but two 4-1 wins from the 2003/04 season,; eight goals, seven different scorers including Colin Miles, Adam Stansfield and Gavin Williams.

All of that means that in five meetings there have been a whopping 26 goals!
