15th April 2016

Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this coming Saturday with a trip to local rivals Bristol Rovers.

The game at the Memorial Ground kicks off at 3pm and is an ALL TICKET game for travelling fans, if you haven’t got your ticket for the game, call 01935847888 and discuss your options before it is too late.

Yeovil are coming into the game off the back of Darren Way’s first home defeat in charge. The fortress Huish streak was brought to an end by Exeter City last week and ensuring that result was nothing more than a tiny blip will be high on Way’s agenda.

The first goal scored by the Grecians came just shy of another 300-minute clean sheet as shut outs vs Stevenage, Newport and Carlisle had preceded that fixture.

Another milestone for Artur Krysiak and his defence as the Glovers look to secure their future in the Football League.

Last weekend’s results, combined with a couple of games in midweek means that with five games to go, as little as a point this Saturday could confirm the Glovers as a League Two side.

Dagenham in 24th are 15 points below, with 15 points to play for and York are 13 points behind, should both of those fail to get all three points out of their victory this weekend, then anything positive from the Glovers will be enough to secure survival.

The team news from Yeovil is pretty much the same as it was last week; Darren Ward will likely miss the game through injury whilst the gaffer will once again have to leave out one of his six loanees as only five are allowed in a match day squad.

It was Brandon Goodship who missed out against Exeter, it will be up to Way if they rotate that.

Elsewhere, Marc Laird also missed the game last week, he hobbled off against Stevenage and didn’t recover in time. The extra week in between fixtures could be enough to see him included again.

In more positive news, Omar Sowunmi tweeted this week that he was back in training, but with such a long absence it could be a while before he returns to the first team squad.

Our opponents, Bristol Rovers are on a strong vein of form themselves, their 2-2 with Northampton Town not only secured the Cobblers promotion but also kept the Gas in a strong 4th place.

Currently, they’re just 2 points behind Accrington in 3rd and with Plymouth, Portsmouth and Wimbledon right on their coat tails they’ll be after another 3 points to keep automatic promotion firmly in their sites.

While Yeovil have been priding themselves on their clean sheets recently, it should be noted that Bristol Rovers have scored in each of their last nine fixtures. A 1-0 defeat to Wycombe in February was the last time they failed to trouble the scoreboard.

This has been in no small part down to top scorer Matty Taylor who has notched no fewer than 25 times in the league this season.

It’s a big game at both ends of the table and in geographical terms, too. The Gas are expecting a near capacity crowd for the game and Darren Way’s side are hoping to play the role of party-poopers.

The Glovers are next at home next Saturday, the 23rd against Champions elect Northampton Town, that’s following an away day at Wycombe next Tuesday.

Last time we met

Earlier this season, the two sides met at Huish Park which saw the Gas come out on top 1-0, the score line may suggest a close encounter but it was far from it.

Artur Krysiak kept the game from becoming a cricket score as he and his defence were tested pretty much constantly.

The breakthrough didn’t come until the 88th minute when Ellis Harrison scrambled a ball home. Sickening for Yeovil, but nothing less than Rovers deserved.

With the geography of these two sides being so close to one another it comes as no surprise that the two have met on many, many occasions.

However, with Bristol Rovers dropping out of the league while Yeovil were ascending to the Championship, they haven’t actually crossed in another league match since 2011.

A friendly in 2014 ended in a 2-0 Yeovil win after Ajay Leitch Smith scored twice and there has been Johnstones Paint Trophy fixture in 2012, which also ended in a Glovers win after Ed Upson and Sam Foley did the damage.

The last league meeting did however end in a Rovers victory, a single Gavin Williams goal – wearing the blue and white, not green and white – secured the win late on.

Tickets for away fans are NOT available on the day, Glovers fans wishing to attend the game are asked to call the YTFC ticket office today (as early as possible) for details on which tickets remain.
