The self-described hardworking, ball-playing midfielder has become Town’s second summer signing, joining from Plymouth Argyle on a two-year contract.
He was part of the AFC Wimbledon side who won the Sky Bet League Two play-offs two campaigns ago, before going up automatically with the Pilgrims last term.
Smith is hoping to use his experience and knowhow of the division to achieve the same outcome with the Glovers.
He told YTFC’s official YouTube channel: “I’ve been with Wimbledon and then Plymouth last season so I know what the league is about and what the teams are like – there are some good ones.
“It’s a very competitive league and I’m looking forward to getting started with Yeovil.
“I don’t know whether it’s luck or anything else but the last two seasons I’ve ended up with promotion which has been unbelievable for me.
“I know how to get out of this league and I’m hoping with a good season behind us we might do the same here.”
He added: “I think it’s important to give yourself something to aim for.
“If you’re playing week-in, week-out without any goals you might get a bit laboured but if you keep yourself on your toes you’re going to get the best out of yourself.”
Smith met manager Darren Way a couple of weeks ago and was impressed with what he had to say.
The Irishman, who has four under-21 caps for his country, made 31 appearances for Plymouth last year and is relishing the opportunity to play in every match for Yeovil under Way’s stewardship.
“I’ve known about it for a couple of weeks and it interested me,” Smith said.
“Then I met the manager and after that I wanted to sign. I liked the way he talked about football and we have similar views.
“I’m really looking forward to it. I just want to get started and get the league games going.
“I want to come here and play every game. Hopefully I can get a good pre-season under my belt and look forward to a good season.”
