Yeovil Town Women continued their 100% record in the league, as they overcame Nailsea United by four goals to one at the weekend. A brace by leading scorer Niamh Nicholls, as well as goals from Abbie Carslake and Zoe Ball helped the Glovers in achieving their twelfth straight league win.

Paul Knight made three changes to the team which beat Sunday’s opponents a fortnight ago, as Becca McManus and Niamh Nicholls came in to the starting eleven. As well as this, new signing Phoebe Whalley started the match, making her debut for the club.

The early stages of the affair saw Yeovil defending well against a steep slope and having the better of the chances in front of goal.

The deadlock was broken in the 32nd minute as Becky Milesbroke free and saw her effort saved by the Nailsea goalkeeper,before top-scorer Nicholls pounced on the loose ball and converted the rebound to continue her extraordinary scoring form.

As we entered the closing stages of the half Nicholls doubled Yeovil’s lead for her second of the match. Nicholls finished calmly, as she broke through Nailsea’s defensive line following Becca McManus’ slide rule pass, marking her twentieth goal of the campaign.

The Glovers went in at the break 2-0 up.

Quickly after the restart Yeovil had three, as Miles’ corner was chested down in the box by Abbie Carslake, who rifled the ball in from twelve yards for her ninth of the season. This extended her goalscoring flurry to three games in a row.

Nailsea managed to pull one back in the 62nd minute following an acrobatic strike from range.

Despite this, Yeovil’s response was emphatic as Zoe Ballsealed the three points in the 68th minute. Miles ensured a second assist of the match as her defence-splitting pass found Ball, who kept her cool and finished through the goalkeeper’s legs.

The match finished 4-1, with the Glovers extending their lead at the top to five points with two games in hand.

The player of the match was awarded to Daisy Evans for another impressive performance in Yeovil’s backline.

Yeovil Town Women return to action on Sunday 4th February as they face Paulton Rovers Reserves away 14:00 KO.
