On a cold night at The Keepmoat Stadium Town returned to Somerset empty handed after a 2-1 defeat to Doncaster Rovers.
A twelfth minute goal by Dean Furman, who was later sent off was cancelled out by defender Byron Webster just before half time but Mark Duffy made sure the points stayed in Doncaster with a curling free kick with ten minutes remaining.
In the early stages of the game the home side started brightly, passing the ball around nicely on the nice playing surface.
Doncaster opened the scoring after 12 minutes when midfielder Duffy picked up a loose pass the run at the town defence. Duffy played a neat pass through to Manchester United loanee Macheda, the striker unselfishly squared the ball to Furman who made no mistake it putting the ball in the net from six yards.
Just before the half hour mark Town’s Jamie McAllister put his head on the line to clear a Doncaster free kick. The Scot required lengthy treatment from the physio, but returned to the action shortly after.
On 30 minutes manager Gary Johnson made an early substitute with Fraser Fyvie being replaced by Kevin Dawson. Joe Edwards who started on the right wing moved to centre midfield with Dawson taking up his normal position on the wing.
Ten minutes after receiving his treatment, McAllister had to be replaced. Liam Davis replaced the Scot who was struggling with what looked like a collarbone injury.
Yeovil drew level just before the break when the towering Duffy met a deep free kick from Davis at the back post. The Irishman’s header back across goal to his fellow centre back Webster saw the former Doncaster man smash the ball home from close range.
Early in the second period debutant goalkeeper Chris Dunn was called into action twice and showed good handling skills to deny Quinn and Cotterill.
At the other end Davis stung the palms of Turnball in the Doncaster goal with an effort from 18 yards, which the former Chelsea shot stopper palmed away.
The Doncaster keeper had to be on his toes to deny Hoskins when the former Southampton man’s shot from outside the area was well gathered.
The home side thought they should have been awarded a penalty after 65 minutes when substitute James Coppinger fell rather easily in the area. Replays showed that referee Attwell made the right decision and waved play on.
With just over ten minutes to go Doncaster were reduced to ten men when goalscorer Furman was sent off for a second yellow after his late tackle on Ed Upson.
Minutes later the hosts took the lead when Duffy’s free kick curled over the wall in to the net.
Just after the fourth official signalled four minutes of additional time Town were throwing men forward but James Hayter’s header was saved by Turnball and Ralls fired over from close range.
