After the near 300-mile trip to York City, Yeovil Town left Bootham Crescent empty handed after James Berrett’s deflected shot just after the hour secured the points for the home team.
Manager Paul Sturrock made one change from the starting eleven that lost to local rivals Bristol Rovers at the weekend. Matt Dolan missed the long trip through suspension and was replaced by new loan signing Josh Wakefield, who joined the club on Tuesday morning from AFC Bournemouth.
Despite it being August, the game started in light drizzle and with both teams struggle to get possession of the ball the home side had the first chance after five minutes when former Glover James Berrett fired at goal from 30 yards, but his effort went narrowly over the crossbar.
Town’s first effort came just before the twenty-minute mark when Harry Cornick’s run and shot was deflected wide by centre back Zubar.
On 40 minutes Town had Krysiak to thank for keeping the scores level. The Polish shot stopper pulled off a remarkable point black save to deny Zubar and York a certain goal.
Just two minutes later Krysiak was called into action again. This time the man in black dived low to his left to tip York captain Penn’s long-range effort wide of the upright.
Five minutes into the second half Town nearly opened the scoring after Cornick wriggled free in the box. But the loanee’s shot deflected into the grateful hands of Flinders.
Just after the hour mark the home side took the lead. Former Glover Berrett’s deflected shot from just inside the area left Krysiak no chance in the Town goal.
Despite the late push at the York goal, Town failed to really test Flinders between the sticks.
