Gary Johnson’s Yeovil Town travelled north to take on son Lee’s Oldham Athletic and returned home with the three points after a 4-0 win.
Thee first half goals from Stephen Arthurworrey, Simon Gillett and Sam Hoskins and a late goal from substitute Kieffer Moore was enough to secure all three points for Johnson senior and his Town team.
Town made three changes to the starting eleven that drew with Accrington Stanley last week. Kevin Dawson missed out through injury and Ajay Leitch-Smith and James Berrett dropped to the bench.
Hoskins, Seth Twumasi and Gillett all returned to the starting line up.
In a quiet opening twenty minutes both sides struggled to get their foot on the ball and dictate play. Half chances fell to Daniel Philliskirk and Gillett, but both failed to test the keeper.
On 22 minutes the Glovers took the lead. Arthurworrey’s clever run to lose his marker was spotted by corner taker Sam Foley. The big defender powered his header towards goal, but saw his effort bounce back off the upright. Despite losing balance the Fulham loanee managed to slam the ball home leaving Paddy Kenny with no chance.
Town doubled their advantage just before the half-hour mark when the returning Gillett pounced on a defensive mix up between Kusunga and Kenny to have the easiest job in making it 2-0.
The Glovers made it 3-0 with five minutes of the first half remaining. Another defensive mistake from Kusunga saw Hoskins rob him of the ball and race clear to confidently side foot the ball past the on rushing Kenny.
At the half time interval the home side made two changes with Dominic Poleon and Carl Winchester coming on to replace Dieng and Kusunga.
With just one minute of the second half played the home side and their fans loud appeals for a handball in the area were waved away by referee Eltringham.
Oldham had keeper Kenny to thank for keeping to score line at 3-0 when he dived full stretch to tip a Foley curling effort wide of the post.
Loanee Tom Eaves came on after 68 minutes to replace Hayter, and it only took a couple of minutes before he could have opened his account for Town. His neat touch to loop the ball over Kenny saw him run on goal, but his shot went just wide of the far post.
It was that man Eaves again who had the next opportunity to add the score line. The big striker beat the Oldham offside trap and with only Kenny to beat he fired his shot over the bar.
The home side went close late on when Brian Wilson’s volley skipped off the wet surface and narrowly wide of Steer’s upright.
With the fourth official signalling three minutes of added time, Town made it 4-0 when substitute Kieffer Moore raced clear and score to cement all three points for Town.
