31st December 2019

Yeovil Town face Torquay for the second time within seven days with a National League clash on New Year’s Day (3pm).

After thumping the Gulls on Boxing Day, Yeovil and Torquay had contrasting weekends, with Town suffering defeat on the road to Sutton, and Torquay beating Woking 4-1 at Plainmoor.

Despite the defeat, Town continued their hot streak in-front of goal, with Rhys Murphy adding his 16th goal of the season and Albi Skendi adding his third, taking the sides total up to 52 goals.

Torquay had lost seven league fixtures in a row prior to their win against the Cards, Gary Johnson will be hoping to exact some revenge after an embarrassing return to Huish Park last week.

Head-to-head

I think we all remember fondly and clearly our last meeting with Torquay (because it was only last week!)

Courtney Duffus’ hattrick, alongside goals from Hippolyte, Skendi and Dagnall were the difference as Town showed some festive delight at Huish Park, emphatically winning 6-2.

Prior to Boxing Day, our last competitive meeting with Torquay United came in 2012, during the second round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.  After a frantic 2-2 draw which saw James Hayter net twice, the game would go to penalties which was won 5-4 by Yeovil.

However, our overall record against Torquay is a negative one, with the Devon side claiming 16 victories, Yeovil have 15, and the points have been shared on 12 occasions.

Officials

Savvas Yianni will be the referee on New Year’s Day. This will be his eleventh National League match of the season, and second one refereeing Yeovil, previously taking charge of the home victory against AFC Fylde in September.

Yianni will be assisted by Benjamin Williamson and Daniel Flynn, with Devon Campbell acting as the fourth official.
