Handed his first start by manager Darren Way, the Bournemouth loanee repaid the faith shown in him by Town’s boss with the opening goal of the match.
Further strikes from Rhys Browne and Otis Khan sealed the victory, which left the 19-year-old elated at full-time.
“I’m buzzing,” he told iFollow Glovers. “I had that first chance at the end of the first-half and felt like I should’ve scored so was a bit frustrated.
“I went in at half-time and the gaffer spoke to me and said ‘clear your head’ and as soon as I got it, I knew I was going to score.
“I’ve played with him (Jordan Green) a lot at Bournemouth so I know how strong he is and I felt like he had the better of him so I just held off, got the space and luckily it came to me.”
Surridge is enjoying his first taste of senior football at EFL level and was pleased to repay the travelling fans for their support on his full debut.
“I’m just happy now that I’ve had my first start for the club and scored.
“As soon as I started the game I could hear them (the fans) cheering my name and it’s just good to have that support because I haven’t started for the club and they don’t know what I’m like.
“Hopefully I’ve repaid them with the goal.”
