With the first week of pre-season ticked off, Yeovil Town manager Chris Hargreaves has been impressed with his team’s return to the training pitch.
As the players build their fitness, Hargreaves has been impressed with his new side’s attitude as they embark on their first pre-season under the 50-year-old.
“It’s been really good,” said Hargreaves. “They’ve arrived back in the building fit, which is what we wanted. They’re a really good group so we’re delighted at the moment.
“They’ve certainly done plenty of running, but they will have done before they even came back in. All footballers do now as it’s so critical to your performance to have good fitness levels.
“I’ve been impressed with it, it’s been good for me, Marcus (Stewart) and Toddy (Chris Todd) to see the lads perform. We look forward to the next few weeks as there’s a lot of work to be done.
With a week to go until Town’s first friendly, Hargreaves has challenged his players to be hungry for starts in a Yeovil Town shirt.
“Fitness is obviously the big thing, but also getting strong and understanding what they’re like as a group and individuals and learning what we can get out of them.
“As a player, when it gets close to the time (for games), you want to get in the team, so already I want to see people who want to get in the team.”
Last week, the Glovers confirmed the signing of Jamie Reckord, but Hargreaves still has targets in mind ahead of the season kicking off.
“It’s 24/7, as it is with most managers. I’ve spoken to a lot of people and we’ll come to a decision which is right for the football club. I keep saying it, and I mean it, it has to be right for the football club going forward.
“There’s been some really positive discussions in the last 24/48 hours, I’ve spoken to a lot of people, and if they want to come and play for the football club, they’re coming in, if they don’t they’re not.”
