New Yeovil Town signing Matteo Lanzoni is delighted to have signed for the Glovers, after agreeing an 18-month contract at Huish Park.

The 25-year-old Italian made 15 appearances for Oldham scoring twice in a four-month spell at Boundary Park but turned down the opportunity to remain in Greater Manchester, before opting for Championship football with Yeovil.

Lanzoni said: “I’m happy to have signed for Yeovil and I can’t wait to play for the shirt and for this team.

“It is my dream – my dream is to one day play in the Premier League but I am happy to be here and I hope to be here for a long time.”

The former Italy Under-19 international began his career at Serie A outfit Sampdoria and plied his trade in Italy until August 2013, where he then signed for Oldham.

Lanzoni, who will wear the number 18 shirt, admits the English game is different to that in his native Italy.

He said: “The English game is a different type of football to Italian football. It is much faster, more contact and sometimes more long ball whereas in Italy it is more tactical and possession based but this is a great opportunity for me.

“The first training session was a hard, strong session but the manager is a good, strong guy and the team are a good bunch of guys so I think we can have a good season.”

Whilst Lanzoni is unable to play against Leyton Orient in the FA Cup Third Round on Saturday the central defender – who can play at right-back – is fit and raring to go.

“I’m ready to go – I will give my maximum for the team and for the supporters. I have to impress the manager; I am ready and have to make sure when the occasion comes that I am still ready.

“I am fit and well, but I can’t play on Saturday because I played for Oldham in the FA Cup earlier this season but I will continue to train and will be able to play next week against Burnley.”

Everyone at Yeovil Town Football Club welcomes Matteo to Huish Park and hopes he has a successful spell with the Glovers.
