Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two fixture at Rodney Parade was dedicated to raise awareness for the Marrow for Marley campaign, after the youngster’s recent diagnosis of a rare condition called Aplastic Anaemia.
The disease only affects around 1 in 40 children in the UK and without a bone marrow transplant, the condition will be fatal within a few years.
At the weekend, fans were encouraged to register as bone marrow donors with swabbing stations set up to see if a match could be found for Marley.
The 430 Town supporters who made the trip to South Wales fully supported the afternoon’s activities by registering and volunteering swab samples.
Players from both sides wore Marrow for Marley t-shirts during the warm-up as Marley was mascot for the match.
The Newport fan also led the sides out at Rodney Parade, after meeting Glovers defender Gary Warren before kick-off.
The former Exiles defender donated a signed match-worn short to Marley and his family to be auctioned off, with all proceeds going towards supporting the Marrow for Marley cause.
YTFC would like to thank all Town fans who registered to become a donor on Saturday and supported the day’s activities.
