Following namesake Nathan’s opener, the Irishman curled a beauty over opposition stopper Bradley Collins to deservedly extend Town’s lead at Huish Park.
There were times where the Glovers had to dig deep to preserve their clean sheet and secure progression to the quarter-finals for a second season running, and Smith feels their win was thoroughly deserved.
On his goal, he told iFollow Glovers: “It was a good set from Otis; he didn’t put too much pace on it so it made it easier to hit it first time and luckily enough it looped over the keeper.
“When the set came in I had one thing on my mind which was to shoot; I went with the side foot of my weaker foot to try and guide it in, got it up and down quite quickly and it went over the keeper and in.
“I don’t think I’ve shot enough! Hopefully I’ll now take a few more and get a few more goals. I was absolutely delighted.”
Smith continued: “It was a good evening.
“We knew they were a possession team and we like to counter-attack so it suited us. They had long spells where they had a lot of the ball but we knew if we nicked it we’d get a chance and we had a lot in the first half.
“In the second half we had to be more resilient as teams have a point in the game where they’re on top and I think we defended really well against them and deserved the win.”
