The Yeovil manager had been informed by officials of the Somerset FA that the game counted as a first XI fixture and therefore Upson would have been unable to play through suspension following his fifth booking of the season against Leeds at Elland Road.

It transpired that following dialogue between the Somerset FA and the FA in London, the FA in London insisted that the Upson ban would be applied to the Wigan game on Sunday.

It was also confirmed that any bookings or red cards received in the Weston match would count towards league match bookings.

Because of this Yeovil will not be picking Jamie McAllister, Joe Ralls, Joe Edwards and Byron Webster for fear of them missing important forthcoming league matches.

Gary Johnson said after hearing the news: “I’m sorry, I was wrong in my post match comments at Leeds and Ed will not be banned from the Weston match after all. 

“This was confirmed to us by the Somerset FA but it would appear that the County FA and the full FA do not appear to be on the same wavelength.

“We will be seeing Ed, Paddy Madden, Dan Seaborne, Liam Fontaine, Sam Foley, James Hayter, Luke Ayling and Chris Dunn amongst others for tomorrow evenings game.”

Gary confirmed: “I have spoken to the Somerset FA who have now reversed their original ruling and because I believe that this rule is very ambiguous, to say the least, I am still awaiting a call back from the FA in London with their further comments.

“The Somerset Cup will now take on a new meaning for us as with our small squad in future matches we will find it difficult to include first team members.“
