The defender was on target for the Glovers on the hour at the Abbey Stadium, but the damage had already been done with Uche Ikpeazu and George Maris netting for the U’s in the first half to earn the home side three points.
Southampton Academy graduate Mugabi, whose header was his third goal for the club, returned to the starting line-up in Saturday’s win over Crewe Alexandra after a spell on the sidelines with injury, and hopes he can continue to help the team improve.
He told iFollow Glovers: “The boys put 100 per cent in to get back in the game and it’s just a shame we couldn’t find the second goal to draw the game.
“We pushed on in the second half quite a lot and it was unfortunate we couldn’t get the second goal.”
Mugabi added: “I just want to stay injury-free now, play as many games as I can, improve my game and hopefully improve the team’s performances as well.”
