“Relegation to League One should not be met with doom and gloom but mark the start of a new era!”
That’s the words of Glovers Chairman John Fry today as Yeovil Town come to terms with relegation to League One.
But the Yeovil Chairman has no doubts that the Club has learnt to compete at Championship League level in every aspect of its business and football operations, however, to sustain the Club’s position in the football pyramid, Gary and his management team need the resources to work with.
The current provision is well short of that required for Championship League football. The Club has been performing well above its resources at every level in the Football League, which makes Gary, Terry and Darren’s achievements look even more remarkable.
"As a Club we are financially stable and we intend to stay that way but our lack of financial clout most certainly took its toll in the Championship this season.
"But even then we were able to compete. Look at our performances against the likes of Leicester, Wigan, Watford, Blackburn, Forest, Reading and QPR to name but a few.
"We were there battling it out with the best and Club’s with huge budgets.
“I believe we have the best management team in the Football League and the Club’s board of directors will do everything in its power to keep Gary, Terry and Darren at Huish Park for the next challenge of taking this Club back into the SkyBet Championship.
“When we won at Wembley last May our football management team achieved Championship League status three years ahead of our Strategic Plan forecasts.
“Now we must take stock and review our plans for the next two seasons. This will include our football, financial, supporter and stadium strategies. The approval of our stadium site plans by South Somerset District Council is an essential part of our future strategy.
“Even in relegation our supporters have remained firmly behind the Club and appear to be upbeat about our future position in the Football League. We only have to look at next season’s season ticket sales to know that.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved with the Glovers this season for their fantastic support and belief in Gary, his backroom staff and his players.
“So I say to all our supporters, players, staff and management. Look back on the season with pride and satisfaction. We will be back!”
