5th November 2015

Hi everyone, I hope you have all had a good week. Well – minus the football result.

But you know me, always one to find a positive and what about Ryan Bird? A seventh goal of the season and considering he has already surpassed last season’s top scorer – he is one ray of sunshine over a currently gloomy Huish Park.

We have not had a striker like him since a certain Paddy Madden so he is a welcome addition. We are scoring goals so the fact that we have scored four in our last two games and lost both shows the area we need to strengthen in.

Defensively we have not been up to scratch and that must change if we are to avoid the drop again.

In other football news, there have been – as always at this time of the season – a number of manager re-shuffles.

York City, who sit just above us in the table, have appointed former Dundee United gaffer Jackie McNamara as their new boss and Swindon have welcomed Martin Ling to the County Ground.

McNamara may seem like an underwhelming appointment but he was successful with Dundee in his first two seasons and his young and fresh approach may be just what a struggling club needs.

As for Swindon I think appointing Martin Ling is a master stroke. After he has openly spoken about his battle with depression, the fact that he is back in the game is a joy to see. He is one of the good guys in football and has enjoyed immense success at this level.

I fully expect Swindon to do well under him and push on this season.

Cambridge have parted company with Richard Money, which may seem quite harsh. The club have done well since their promotion from the Conference but currently lie in 18th place.

Having watched them play just a couple of weeks ago, I was impressed with their passing ability. I thought they looked to be very sure of their game plan and their 3-0 lead was due to some good play as well as our questionable defending.

However, their second half performance was poor. We did play extremely well but they invited the pressure and could not keep the ball even with a 3-0 lead.

I think the fans were frustrated with the football as well as the league positions so it will be interesting to see who takes over that job.

I for one cannot wait for FA Cup weekend and let’s hope we can pull off a result just as our youth side did on Tuesday.

A 4-0 win over Forest Green at Huish Park ensured that the young Glovers progressed to the second round of the FA Youth Cup.

Ollie Bassett is proving to be an absolute star and I would not be surprised to see him play on Sunday as we have a depleted squad thanks to another bout of injuries.

It is nice to be playing football and not having to worry about points. It will be tough playing a match on Sunday and then straight away on Tuesday but if we could get through the matches with no further injuries and some confidence then we won’t mind one bit.

Finally, a huge well done to all 108 Yeovil fans that travelled all the way to Carlisle. We have absolutely amazing supporters and their support is unconditional.

Hope to see you all at Maidstone and let’s have another good Cup run! Until next week…Up the Glovers!
