Queens Park RangerS and Derby go head to head today with the prize being one of the most valuable in world football.

A place at the top table of English football is paired with a financial windfall being estimated at around £100 million.

Big spending QPR are the underdogs going into the showpiece final at Wembley and with big name players like Charlie Austin, Bobby Zamora and Ravel Morrison at their disposal this may come as a bit of a shock.

Derby, with Steve McClaren at the helm have been in a solid play-off place for most of the season and secured their place at Wembley with a comprehensive 6-2 aggregate win over Brighton.

Chris Martin has been key to this success, a goal every other game throughout a 50 game season is not to be sniffed at.

But with a fit again Austin, QPR have their main goal scorer back in the frame for the big finale.

Derby’s last five games have seen them win four and draw just once, but those wins were far more emphatic than QPR’s tentative progress through the play-offs.

Rangers had to play out a tense 0-0 draw against Wigan before squeezing through the second leg at home, 2-1.

So, I’m inclined to agree with the bookmakers on the favourites here – Derby, who out pass and out class many opponents are the ones for me to make the big time.

But, backing the Rams to win in 90 minutes at 11/8 or to be promoted via any means at 8/11 is hardly the most valuable bets on the coupon.

So we must dig a little deeper.

With Derby you are normally guaranteed one thing; goals. Nine of the last 12 County games have gone over the 2.5 goals threshold, so with that in mind we’re looking for correct scores with a big more value.

Contests between the two sides have always been close; the last three have seen each side win once, by only one goal, and a single draw.

So, with so much at stake and all those previous stats, I’m going to suggest a couple of bets from the Football League Sponsors, SkyBet.

Derby to win 2-1 (90 Minutes) – 17/2

Chris Martin and Ravel Morrison to both score in 90 Minutes – 15/2

Over 2.5 goals in 90 minutes – 6/5

And for something a little bit different…

Joey Barton to be sent off (in 90 Minutes) – 14/1

For one side, it’s a dream to win at Wembley, for the other it’s another season in the SkyBet Championship.
