Artur Krysiak said he couldn’t bear to watch Jack Compton’s match-winning penalty against Newport and had to rely on the fans to know that the spot-kick was successful!
Compton’s 15th minute goal was enough to give Yeovil a vital three points in the fight to stay up, with Krysiak helping his team by keeping another clean sheet.
But the Pole turned away as the match-winner stepped up as his nerves got the better of him, and was superstitious that him watching was causing Town to miss penalties recently.
“I turned around, I couldn’t watch!” said Krysiak.
“Every time I look we miss, so I had to do something different, so I just waited for the fans reaction; they jumped up and I knew we were 1-0 up!
“Maybe it should be my tactic from now on! I’ll stick with it for the next time.”
The shutout against the Exiles means that Town have kept seven clean sheets in the last eight games, and the goalkeeper credited his manager.
“It’s incredible, if you had told me at the start of the season we’d keep so many then I wouldn’t believe you,” the Pole explained.
“The one man who took over, Darren Way, and the gaffer has done so well.
“He builds us up with so much confidence and he gives us that winning mentality.”
A 3-0 defeat to Cambridge aside Town have been in good form, especially at Huish Park where the Glovers haven’t lost in the league since the 1-0 defeat to Wycombe in November.
But Krysiak explained that opposition teams will need to really play well to beat Yeovil on their own patch, and that the home form will help keep Town in the league.
“We played Cambridge and the defeat hurt us, so it’s a great comeback.
“The fans are a massive part of the unbeaten run at home, they can see were fighting. Teams are coming here and they need to know that they have to work hard.
“But we’re humble. We’ll keep going and we’ll show everyone that we can stay up, we’re still working hard to stay in the league for next season.”
