A second-year scholar at Huish Park, Rogers signs a deal until June 2021 after being promoted to the first-team squad ahead of the 2018/19 season.

The 17-year-old featured throughout pre-season for Darren Way’s side prior to being awarded a squad number for the campaign, transitioning to train with the first-team on a daily basis.

Making his professional debut in the EFL Cup tie with Aston Villa in August, Gabby marked his EFL debut a month later in the 6-0 win over Newport County by becoming the second youngest player to represent the club since entering the Football League.

After signing his pro deal, Rogers said: “It’s a dream come true to sign my first professional deal and is something I’ve dreamt about for a long time.

“I know that the real hard work starts now but I’m looking forward to kicking on and hopefully gaining more experience.

“The gaffer has been brilliant with me this season and has given me an opportunity, so I’ll work as hard as I can to be successful for him and this football club.”

Totalling four senior appearances so far, the Devon-born midfielder came through the ranks at Torquay United before moving further north in the county to join Exeter City.

Now rewarded with a professional contract the teenager becomes the first Academy product since 2015 to officially make the step up to the first-team, reiterating the club’s determination to produce its own talent.

Snapped up by the Glovers, Gabby soon caught the eye of manager Darren Way who commented: “Gabby has the talent to get to the next level providing he stays humble and keeps working hard.

“I would like to thank his parents who have played a key role in his development and I look forward to working with him further.

“This signing is part of the vision of the football club with regard to the future and it’s good to see the plan start to come to fruition.”

Now permanently making the transition from the Academy to the first-team, Academy Manager Jamie Harrison added: “It’s fantastic news that Gabby has signed a professional contract. Gabby has tremendous ability which he has demonstrated since registering with the Academy as an Under-15.

“The question mark has been can he transfer that talent into the first-team but if anything he has loved the stage and his confidence has grown even more!

“During his first-team appearances he has shown what he is capable of and has always wanted to get on the ball. This is just the start and Gabby must push himself even harder to earn more game time and a place in the starting line-up.”

All at Huish Park would like to congratulate Gabby on signing his first professional contract and look forward to seeing him flourish in green and white.
