17th September 2014

Can you believe we are over half way through September and eight games in to the new campaign?

At the risk of sounding old…this season is flying by! I hope all the fans who travelled to Coventry on Saturday enjoyed their day…I was gutted I couldn’t make it, but made up for it by making the 300 mile round trip last night! I was extremely tired but it is always worth it…I thought we deserved the three points in the end after a slow start.

Who else thought we had won it in the dying seconds?! Of course, I was as calm and collected as usual in my seat, (as if), but thought we were so unlucky not to clinch it. Kieffer scored a great goal and that elusive home win is edging ever closer.

As for the rest of the football world, Chelsea seem to be the team to beat at the moment, Diego Costa is turning out to be the signing of the summer…I hope you all have him in your dream teams? As for Arsenal, I thought they played some great football in their 2 – 2 draw with Manchester City, with Wilshere at the heart of the good play.

However, their inconsistency is rearing its ugly head once again as they put on a poor performance losing 2 – 0 to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last night.

This is always the time of the season where we see managerial casualties due to poor starts to the campaign. Newcastle went down 4-0 at Southampton and with just 2 points from their opening four games, it seems Alan Pardew’s days are numbered at St James’s Park.

There is no doubt he has done a great job there, but with so much frustration from the supporters, I can’t see how he can carry on. Elsewhere, former Glovers boss Russell Slade looks to be clinging on to his job following last night’s 1–1 draw at Notts County. They may have only seven points from seven games, after narrowly missing out on a spot in the Championship last season, but a point away from home is not a terrible result! It is still so early in the season and lots can change…remember when we lost 6 games in a row then went on to get promoted?! I feel for Russell being under so much pressure and think he deserves a bit more time, but such is the modern game…I wish him the best of luck whatever happens!

Goal of the Week
Another great week of goals and Kieffer’s was no exception…that boy has got it! However, this week the award has to go to West Ham’s Enner Valencia who netted on Monday night in a 2 – 2 draw at Hull City. The commentators reaction says it all…it was a spectacular finish.

Lastly, I would like to welcome new signing Jake Kean to Huish Par, who has come in on an initial month’s loan.

The 23 year old goalkeeper from Blackburn had a solid debut last night and all 6ft 5 of him looked a force to be reckoned with. As for Chris Weale and Artur Krysiak, it may have been a difficult start for them but things change quickly for football and I am sure they will be back playing soon.

My man of the match award last night would have to go to defender Ben Nugent who I thought had his best game for us last night…long may it continue! We face a tough test on Saturday when Peterborough United make the trip down to South Somerset.

We seem to play better against strong opposition and our passing football is a lot more effective! So let’s #PACKTHEPARK and get behind the boys once again…just think how sweet that first home victory will be.

Have a good week and see you all Saturday….until next week.
