Yeovil Town progressed through to the second round of the Somerset Premier Cup after a 3-2 win over Paulton Rovers.

Town fielded their under 18’s team to take on Richard Fey’s men at Paulton.

The Glovers fell behind just before the half hour mark when Jordan Ricketts tapped home from close range.

Just before the half time interval Town scored twice to go into the break leading 2-1.

The first goal came when Paul Akinuli received a smart through ball from Ollie Bassett to cooly slot home past Ben John in the Paulton goal.

Two minutes later Town took the lead when Jack Ball latched onto a poor back pass to run clear of the defenders to place the ball into the corner of the net.

On the hour mark the youngsters made it 3-1 when Akinuli broke away from the Paulton back four to unselfishly square the ball to Bassett, who made no mistake from 18 yards.

The home side pulled a goal back with just over 10 minutes remaining when Ross Staley had the simple task of tapping into the empty net from a Ricketts cross.

Despite the late goal, the young glovers held firm to secure their place in the second round.
