Yeovil manager Darren Way says Northampton was a good barometer for his squad ahead of next season.

Harry Cornick’s first-half header gave the Glovers the lead over the League Two leaders, which was cancelled out by Nicky Adams.

And Way believes the way that his team more than stood their ground against a team nineteen places above them in the table shows what the current Yeovil squad can do with a clean slate next season.

Way explained, “They’re a very good team. I’ve got so much respect for them because of the adversity they’ve dealt with, things like players not being paid. But they’ve stood strong, and you can see they’re a good footballing side.

“But there was times where I thought my players went up against them excellently, pressed them well and caused them problems. It shows we’re not far off and playing against them is a good test.

“What you can see is our group of players have not switched off yet, and that’s amazing.”

The Yeovil boss added that with a bit more attacking potency, his side can improve for next season.

“I thought the boys applied unbelievable force because of the results Northampton have had. 22 games unbeaten suggests to me they’re a team you’ve got to respect, but I thought our players were excellent.

“Is there more? Yes, we know there is more. I just think we need that little bit more in the final third to make sure we win more games, I think that’s the difference.”

Goalscorer Harry Cornick came into the side after being on the bench for the visit to Wycombe Wanderers in the week, and his manager praised the 21-year-old.

“He had the opportunity today,” said Way, “and you could see in the first half that he wasn’t going to give up.

“His header reflects that, we’ve been working on that and he showed great bravery, something that you need to have at this football club.”

With Football League status assured for next season, the Town boss said that the performances against Wycombe and the Cobblers gives him a lot of hope for next season, with planning for the 2016/17 campaign soon to take place.

Way explained, “You could see is the whole club is staying alive for next season, and looking at the last two games there’s a lot of positives to take into next year.

“I said to the players ‘I’ve been honest to you and you’ve been loyal to me, and I’ll start speaking to you soon’. Hopefully we’ll sit down with the board and we can start identifying the ones we want for next year.”
