Yeovil Town will look to secure a spot on the Emirates FA Cup Third Round on Sunday afternoon as Darren Sarll’s side travel to Stockport County.

After defeating National League opposition twice already, Town will now look to potentially secure top-flight opposition in the third round with a victory at Edgeley Park.

This will be the hosts first fixture in over three weeks following a COVID-19 outbreak amongst the Stockport County camp.

Darren Sarll’s thoughts

In his weekly press conference, the gaffer was more hungry for victory than ever, when speaking to BBC Somerset he said; “Any win could get us going, we just need to concentrate on the next game. The change of competition does psychologically take you away from your league programme.

We need to concentrate on ourselves, December is going to be a really important month for us, so it’s going into that with as much momentum as possible.

“Unfortunately, we’ve got the short turnaround for Tuesday and a vast amount of injuries but mainly it’s just a shame we can’t play here on Wednesday too with our supporters.”

Injury news

Sarll confirmed that defensive pairing Luke Wilkinson and Lee Collins are doubts for the FA Cup tie, however there was some positive news as Josh Staunton could be in line for a return being described to have a “50/50” chance of playing.

A foot in the opposition camp

Stockport County were widely tipped as favourites to secure promotion from the National League following vast investment into the squad. Managed by the experienced Jim Gannon, a firm favourite amongst the Hatters following a number of successful spells at the club.

The star man on the pitch for Stockport is summer addition John Rooney. After winning promotion with Barrow last season, the brother of Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney didn’t hang around for EFL action, instead moving to Stockport to lead another promotion charge in the National League.
