Yeovil Town produced a big performance to match the occasion, to win the first derby with Weymouth of the 21st Century.

Goals from Josh Neufville and Albi Skendi built a comfortable half-time advantage for the Glovers.

Joe Quigley secured the three points with an emphatic victory as the game entered stoppage time.

Darren Sarll made two changes to the side which secured victory against Torquay United.

There was a debut for Reuben Reid who led the line alongside Joe Quigley who returned from suspension.

The rest of the side was unchanged, Adam Smith began in goal with Carl Dickinson, Luke Wilkinson, Max Hunt and Alex Bradley completing the defence.

The midfield comprised of a flat four, Lawson D’Ath, Matt Worthington operated centrally with Albi Skendi and Josh Neufville playing slightly wider.

Yeovil came out the traps fast, and the debutant Reid thought he made an instant impact after he headed home a powerful effort following Skendi’s cross. However, much to the bemusement of all in attendance, the goal was chalked off by the referee.

This did little to dishearten the green and whites, who played with real spirit in the opening exchanges.

The forward-thinking mentality didn’t take long to pay dividends, as Luton loanee Neufville netted the opener on 14 minutes. After a great passing move, Neufville found himself driving to the edge of the box, eventually releasing an effort into the bottom corner, leaving the goalkeeper stranded.

With the wind in their sails, Town added a second through Skendi on 19 minutes. As the ball dropped kindly on the edge of the area, the towering Albanian released a drilled effort on the bounce to double Yeovil’s advantage.

In truth, the hosts did very little to make a game of it in the first half, with wave after wave of Yeovil attacks terrorizing the Terras’ backline.

As the half went on, Yeovil’s best chance to extend fell on 38 minutes when Reid was played through but couldn’t quite find the finish.

The half-time whistle would have been a more welcome sound for the Weymouth players who had played with their own half throughout.

During the second half, the visiting Glovers did well to keep Weymouth at arm’s length, restricting the hosts to half-hearted penalty shouts.

With fresh legs needed, Town added Chris Dagnall to the forward line replacing Reid who had looked lively on his debut.

It didn’t take long for the 34-year-old to find himself involved either. Breaking away from the Weymouth defence, Dagnall was hauled in the box earning the green and whites an opportunity to seal the points from the spot. Quigley emphatically converted to ensure Town were the first derby day winners of the 21st century.
