MATCH PREVIEW | Yeovil Town – Torquay United

Yeovil Town return to National League action this weekend as Gary Johnson’s Torquay United are the visitors to Huish Park.

After suffering a 6-1 defeat against The Gulls on Boxing Day, Darren Sarll and his side will be eager to exact revenge on the side from Plainmoor, in hope of securing their third National League win of the season.

With the Glovers responding briliantly from that defeat and comfortably dispatching Aldershot Town on Monday, confidence will be high going into the game as the green and whites will look to put 2020 behind them, whilst entering a new year full of new challenges

Darren Sarll’s thoughts

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, he said: “We responded well from that horror show last week against Torquay with a good result on Monday.

We responded the way the group should have respond. I always back my group because they are a brilliant bunch and I love spending time with them.

The boys are usually good from reacting from situations like these which is good to see. I thought we played alright on Monday and there’s so much more we can do but until we get that consistency with injuries, especially with the back four then sadly we are going to see more inconsistency in our performances

Naturally, you’ll want revenge from what happened last week because we’re all footballers who care about their football and their work, so hopefully we can prove ourselves this time around and consolidate a much better result.”

Team News

It’s more of the same injury news for Town in 2021 as Josh Staunton is still likely to be sidelined as a result of his injury in early December, whilst Sarll and his team are awaiting further news on their most recent absentee Rhys Murphy.

A foot in the opposition camp

The visitors have had a strong start to the 2020/21 season, sitting comfortably at the top of the National League table with an eleven-point advantage.

Following their victory over Darren Sarll’s side on Boxing Day, Torquay recorded a 4-3 away win against newly promoted Weymouth at the Bob Lucas Stadium in midweek. Goals from Connor Lemonheigh-Evans, Asa Hall, Aaron Nemane, and Josh Umerah ensured that Gary Johnson’s men maintained their fine form in the National League this campaign.

Under the current government restrictions, no Yeovil fans are able to attend the fixture, however Glovers fans can watch the game live on YTFC Live for just £9.99 with Three Valleys providing commentary.
