Yeovil Town secured their first National League victory of the season, beating Bromley 2-1 at Hayes Lane.

First half goals from Rhys Murphy and Joe Quigley separated the two sides at the break, with Yeovil holding a deserved advantage.

The hosts came out the traps with real intent in the second half, and did find a goal through the threatening Michael Cheek. However, this was just a consolation as Yeovil secured three points.

With a weeks break, Darren Sarll will have enjoyed getting some extra drills in with his players in the build up to the match.

Adam Smith, an ever present for Town this season, began in goal, with Carl Dickinson, Gabriel Osho, Luke Wilkinson and the returning Daniel Leadbitter lining up as a back four.

In the middle of the park, Charlie Lee began at the base of the midfield with Albi Skendi, Matt Warburton and Emmanuel Sonupe ahead of him.

The partnership which began our FA Cup victory against Bromley started once more as Rhys Murphy and Joe Quigley led the line.

With fresh legs, Yeovil began brightly with Leadbitter and Sonupe enjoying success on the flanks, eventually leading to a succession of corners for Town.

Such a positive start has been a rarity of late for the Glovers this season, and Sarll’s side made sure it counted on 8 minutes. Warburton’s corner caused havoc in the Bromley box, eventually the ball fell to Murphy at the back-post who turned home the opener in front of The Glyn Beverly Stand.

As Yeovil looked strong from deadballs, the hosts tried their arm from set pieces too. Going close on 18 minutes, a deep free-kick from Reeco Hackett-Fairchild found Jack Holland but he couldn’t direct his effort on target.

Set-piece routines were clearly on the agenda during the week of training as a smart free-kick from Warburton almost added a second for Town. The Northampton loanee quickly fired an effort to Mark Cousins’ near post, forcing the Bromley man to produce an excellent stop.

After an eventful afternoon last time the sides met, Cheek thought he had levelled the scoring on 35 minutes but his back-post header hit the side-netting.

On the stroke of half-time Yeovil added a second through Quigley. Once again from a set-piece, Dickinson’s cross was met emphatically by the towering striker to double the Glovers advantage against his former club.

Bromley had to come out fighting in the second half to find a way back into the game, which they almost found on 54 minutes as Hackett-Fairchild’s effort was kindly deflected into the six-yard box with Cheek lurking, eventually the ball was ushered wide by Osho much to A.Smith’s relief.

The hosts positive mindset eventually paid dividends on 70 minutes as Cheek cut the deficit. A deep cross found the forward at the back-post who flicked the ball beyond A.Smith.

Despite conceading, Yeovil’s forward play wasn’t discouraged as substitute Tom Knowles burst forward but had his goal-bound effort from the edge of the box deflected wide.

In the dying moments, the best chance actually fell to Yeovil who found Courtney Duffus baring down on goal however his effort was well saved by Cousins.

In the end, Yeovil Town held onto well deserved victory, claiming three points for the first time this season.

Next up for Yeovil, fans return to Huish Park as Notts County are the visitors on Saturday afternoon.
