Simeon Akinola’s early goal put the hosts ahead but a fine finish from Khan earned the Glovers a share of the spoils.

Yeovil dominated proceedings in the second half at the Hive and were denied a late penalty when Rhys Browne was sent tumbling in the box by Charlie Clough.

Khan reiterated manager Darren Way’s view that a spot-kick should have been awarded, and believes they deserved three points.

He told iFollow Glovers: “The first half was a struggle. Every ball you kicked came straight back at you and it was like defending for 45 minutes straight.

“We knew when we got through that period of the game, we’d get chances. We kept fighting and had chances, then when the wind came our way we were ready.

“For the second 45 minutes we were on top and ran all over them. We got chances from crosses, shots – everything. We knew the goal was going to come at some point.”

Khan added: “We knew we could have won the game, we were getting closer and closer, and the penalty decision was a shambles really.

“The ref knew himself it was a penalty; he had the whistle to his lips when Rhys went down.

“It’s 100% a penalty – anywhere else on the pitch that’s a foul so I don’t understand why he didn’t give that.

“We were the best team in the second half, ran all over them, had chances but obviously a decision didn’t go our way – that happens in football.

“At least we didn’t lose the game and we move on now.”

Khan’s 81st-minute strike in London was his sixth goal of the campaign.

He joins Southampton loanee Olufela Olomola as joint-top scorer and is hopeful of adding even more goals to his game.

Khan said: “I thought I had a lot more time than I think I actually did so I hit it first time, no messing about, got a clean connection on it and it beat the keeper.

“My season is going along nicely. Hopefully I can keep it going, keep getting goals and assists, and helping the team out.”
