The 21-year-old was sent off for violent conduct in Town’s defeat to Carlisle United in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday.
With the score at 1-0 to the visitors, the Bournemouth loanee was alleged to have led with his elbow in an aerial challenge with Tom Miller and subsequently saw red from referee Trevor Kettle.
Whitfield will now miss the Glovers’ matches against Portsmouth, Newport County and Crewe Alexandra, and will return in time for the final three fixtures of the 2016/17 campaign.
Keen to remain as close to the action as possible and apologise to the fans for his dismissal last weekend, Whitfield and manager Darren Way have hatched an idea that will see the youngster watch Saturday’s clash at Fratton Park from the away end amongst the travelling faithful.
