A brace from Tarique Fosu saw off the Glovers to close the 2016/17 season, with the Town boss pointing towards the difference in quality in the final third.

Speaking to YTFC’s official YouTube channel, he said: “When I look at the first goal, I thought we had more possession at the time. 

“We were getting in the final third with free-kicks on the edge of the box and I keep saying, the fine line between winning and losing is so small.

“To score goals you need that little bit more quality in the final third, but every now and again this season we’ve lacked that.”

Both Otis Khan and Ben Whitfield had good opportunities to net for Yeovil either side of half-time, but it wasn’t to be as the Green and Whites finished the season in 20th. 

Despite defeat, Way was pleased with his side’s performance against the U’s who were gunning for a play-off spot.  

“I didn’t feel we were under threat and we had three u top for the majority of the game, in the end I had four up top so it wasn’t like we sat back and got numbers behind the ball.

“Overall, we had good possession, good play but they’ve got one or two players that can hurt you. Porter can certainly hurt you and Fosu playing between the lines.

“I was disappointed with the first goal because you can become a little bit despondent but have said that we didn’t, we kept going and even in the second half got in the final third more than they did.”

Defeat in Essex rounded off a disappointing second half of the season after a successful first half of the campaign, despite the Glovers finishing with their highest points tally for the last four years.
