The young midfielders prolonged their stay at Huish Park from Bournemouth earlier this week, having both featured over 20 times for the Glovers so far.

Speaking in part two of his Half-Way Report on YTFC’s official YouTube channel, Way said: “I think what they’ve brought to the football club is a hunger, a desire, honesty and commitment.

“I think potentially, both of them are going to be fantastic players in the future. You can see with Liam Walsh, players come in and go on to bigger and better things so it’s nice to have them until the end of the season.

“I’ve seen two players there that are fully committed to the football club. You can bring a loan in there’s always that doubt about how much they care and how much passion and desire they show.

“I’m looking forward to spending the rest of the season working with them.”

Butcher has played in both defence and midfield for Town since arriving in August, demonstrating versatility that Way was keen to maintain within his squad.

“He came in and played straight away against Walsall and I thought he was absolutely fantastic,” Way said.

“He gives me that flexibility where I think he can play anywhere along the back four and he’s a very solid performer in midfielder as well.

“We need a good squad and he’s very, very reliable in that area.”

Whitfield has become a fans’ favourite since arriving in Somerset, scoring two goals in 22 appearances for the club.

However, Way is keen for the 20-year-old to add more goals to his game in the second half of the campaign.

He said: “Ben’s got great athleticism, great awareness, gets from box-to-box and he makes the right runs at the right time.

“However, I feel he could score more goals. His goal against MK Dons was fantastic, the way he arrived in the box… I’m looking for more of that.”
