The Glovers defender, who has been playing at full-back of late, could come up against the ex-Northampton Town man, pictured, if selected at centre-back at Adams Park on Saturday (3pm).

Chairboys striker Akinfenwa is often the focus in clubs’ pre-match press conferences up and down the country due to his size, but he has backed up the hype with 10 goals and six assists so far this season.

However, Smith insists Town know what they need to do to thwart the danger he possesses and the rest of the Wycombe side.

“There are various ways (to defend against Akinfenwa),” he told iFollow Glovers.

“Concentration has to be high against a player like that. He plays to his strengths and you have to give him credit for that.

“They always talk about Akinfenwa but there are other players who we’ve identified who can pose a threat.

“You have to take into consideration what they have; you can’t go into a game and not do that.

“We know what we have to go out and do, and that’s what we have to do right.”
