Keen to support all forms of the game at a grassroots level within the local community, Huish Park hosted a walking football showcase during half-time of a Checkatrade Trophy clash with Plymouth Argyle last November, which subsequently saw YWFC’s membership grow.

Now boasting in the region of 50 members, the club enters local tournaments and competes in the Somerset FA league.

This success has led to the Glovers agreeing to give non-financial support to the town’s only walking football club, which was established five years ago. The newly formed alliance will include various supportive measures such as further opportunities to showcase YWFC at selected YTFC home games.

Commenting on the new partnership Chairman of YWFC, Stuart Marples, said: “We are delighted and honoured to have closer cooperation with Somerset’s only EFL side.

“We have amongst our members loyal fans and club supporters and by bringing our membership more directly into the Yeovil fold, we feel it helps demonstrate the continued commitment to the local community by both clubs.

“As founder and chairman, I am personally delighted at this significant step and thank all involved for the positive approach taken. We look forward to a great future enjoying the game we love.”

Keen to move forward with the alliance, YTFC’s Chief Operating Officer, David Mills, added: “Walking football is one of the fastest growth areas for football and appeals to a significant number of Yeovil fans and to underline this we have already been contacted by another organisation who is looking to set up a Walking football club in the area.

“We are delighted therefore to help this growth area by working closer with Yeovil Walking Football Club which we hope will enable them to reach a wider audience whilst maintaining their independent status.”
