The Glovers are currently on a six-game losing streak which has seen the team slide towards the bottom of Sky Bet League Two.

Outside of the bottom two by just two points, the green and whites now face important back-to-back home fixtures against Cambridge United and Morecambe – two sides within touching distance.

Facing the U’s this weekend at Huish Park, the 20-year-old believes it’s vital for matters to remain in their own hands.

“It’s important to me that we get a win and these next two games are massive,” he told iFollow Glovers. “It’s important we step up and give the supporters the performance and fight they deserve.

“At this stage of the season we’re all in our houses on a Tuesday night saying ‘what’s the score’ and ‘come on lads do us a favour’ but there’s a long way to go and we want to be in a position, as it is now, where it’s in our own hands.

“It gets to a stage where everyone is worrying about other people but we should focus on ourselves. We need to play better but if we play better we will win games.

“There’s a lot of ‘this is the biggest game of the season’ at this club but that’s where we are. These are the sort of games that keep you up. Our run in tough so these sort of games in the next period we have to win or at least get points from.”

Back in the side in recent weeks, the goalkeeper’s determination to retain the club’s EFL status has remained firm throughout.

Ready for action once again, Baxter feels his loan status is irrelevant in the fight to beat the drop.

“It’s frustrating when I’m not playing games but I just want us to stay up, the fact I’m a loan player is irrelevant.

“We need to get a win for the supporters who’ve not seen many wins here and they’re the most important people at the football club.

“They support us well, they support me well so we all want to go out and produce what we have produced but the result is the most important thing.

“We’re together and have had a lot of talks but it’s time now to stop the talking and produce.”
