Yeovil Town won for the second National League match in a row as Chesterfield were beaten 2-1 at the Proact Stadium.

First half goals from Myles Hippolyte and Rhys Murphy gave Town a comfortable lead at the break.

The second half offered the hosts hope as Curtis Weston smashed in a volley from distance to give Chesterfield a way back into the game.

But this second half improvement was not enough as the Glovers moved up to second in the National League.

Darren Sarll made one change to the side which beat Halifax Town at Huish Park on Saturday.

With Gold Omotayo suspended, Murphy returned to the fold following the birth of his second child.

Choosing to start with three forwards once again, Sarll would have been hoping for an exciting, attacking performance from his side.

Excitement was what he got too, it would take just 90 seconds for the green and whites to take the lead.

After some great hold up play from Chris Dagnall, the former Bury forward found Hippolyte as the midfielder struck Yeovil into the lead.

It wouldn’t take too long for the lead to be doubled. Just 24 minutes in, Murphy was taken down by Anthony Gerrard, the forward then stepped up and converted from the spot for his fifteenth goal of the season.

Yeovil would continue the push for goals, forcing Chesterfield goalkeeper Luken Coddington into a double save as Courtney Duffus and Hippolyte had efforts saved.

The second half saw the hosts come out looking for a route back into the game.

On 60 minutes, they would have that as Curtis Weston hammered a volley past Stuart Nelson from 20 yards following a corner to give Chesterfield hope.

But as quickly as hopes were raised, they were dashed with goalkeeper Coddington being stretchered off, leaving Chesterfield with ten-men and centre-back Will Evans taking up the role between the sticks.

Despite this, Yeovil did little to test the makeshift goalkeeper, leaving him to largely deal with crosses.

Town would have a penalty shout waved away by the referee as Hippolyte was seemingly tripped inside the box.

Despite Chesterfield enjoying a lot of the ball in the nine minutes of additional time, a goal would not come for the depleted Spireites as Yeovil claimed all three points in Derbyshire.
