The Glovers held play-off contenders Exeter City to a 0-0 draw in Devon on Tuesday night to pick up their first clean sheet in five, something the Town boss is keen to repeat.

Heading to Essex looking for a return to winning ways in Sky Bet League Two, Way insists that any winning run will be based upon defensive resoluteness.

“It’s important to keep clean sheets,” he told iFollow Glovers. “Any of the runs we’ve been on have been based on keeping the ball out of the back of the net.

“We always believe that we have a real good chance. When you look at the form Exeter have been in, we matched them.

“We know a lot about Colchester and the way they play but we’ll make sure we don’t put too much pressure on ourselves and put on a good performance.”

The U’s have a superior record of the Glovers from previous meetings and came away from Huish Park with all three points earlier in the season.

Looking to exact revenge, Way is keen to end up on the right side of the fine lines that determine winning and losing.

“Colchester will be a tough game,” he said. “We had large spells of possession (in the return fixture), but we were disappointed with the goal we conceded.

“That’s one thing I’m disappointed about with us as a whole; games where we’ve lost out by small margins where I think we could’ve done better.”
