Francois Zoko’s fifth goal of the season was sandwiched between strikes from Danny Collins and Scott Vernon as the Mariners earned all three points.

The result sees the wait for points on the road continue, with four defeats in as many games on Town’s travels this season.

Speaking after the match at Blundell Park, Way was reflective on his side’s performance.

“I thought we had some good spells and some good possession,” he told iFollow Glovers. “Even though we went down to a set-piece, I thought our structure was good and we were breaking very, very quickly with numbers.

“But then there was a spell in the second half where we didn’t hold the ball up well enough and we didn’t find our passes.

“Sometimes away from home you have to find a way to win ugly because there will be some sustained pressure in front of their supporters which you have to handle, but I don’t think we did that well.”

The Glovers have scored six goals away from home this season with no reward in terms of points, leaving Town’s boss to target clean sheets on their travels.

“I think when you look at the forwards there’s never been a question, they do look a threat.

“But it’s important we make sure that we get the ball into the forwards in the right areas and most importantly do the forwards a favour and keep a clean sheet because we can score as many goals as we want but if we’re not keeping clean sheets it’s not helping.”
